Never underestimate the power of moving your body everyday…
As we age it is crucial to move your body everyday and connect with like minded people who can help you stay healthy and happy.
There are so many ways to move your body, start with small steps. Any form of movement that you enjoy will help you build a healthy lifestyle and meet great people along the way.
Movement saved my life. At 49, I found myself fifty pounds overweight, overmedicated, and drinking too much. Even the idea of walking or hiking felt overwhelming. I began with simple walks in my neighborhood to ease my anxiety. That small step led me to lose fifty pounds, eliminate all medications, and quit drinking.
Moving my body each day, focusing on my wellness goals has truly changed my life. Try any type of activity you feel comfortable doing.
Here are a few of my favorite forms of movement that help improve your health…
Walking ~ Helps you lose weight, improve heart health, strengthen your immune system and increase your happiness.
Hiking ~ Builds strong muscles and bones, improves sleep, reduces anxiety and depression, lowers blood pressure and helps with balance. My favorite thing about hiking is that it often doesn't feel like exercise.
Dancing ~ Increases your energy level, improve bone health, balance and flexibility. Also dancing is a social activity that can help decrease depression and loneliness. As we age loneliness can lead to many mental and physical illnesses.
Tai Chi ~ Helps improve memory and cognitive function. Good low impact movement to improve your health and socialize with your local community.
Yoga and Meditation ~ So many health benefits from yoga and meditation, Yoga can help you calm your mind and find peace. Yoga helps with Posture, helps build strength and muscles and boost your immune system.
Meditation takes time for most of us to learn, but just checking in with yourself for fifteen minutes a day is enough to feel relaxed and gain clarity. Each morning take time to begin your day with time for yourself.
Cycling ~ Helps build muscles, low impact , better lung health, boost your mood and can be done indoors or outdoors.
Today, with wellness retreats , hiking and walking groups, I help women who feel lost and are suffering begin again, so they can rediscover health and happiness.
